Slate: Celebrating the Rise of Homegrown Soccer Talent

Highlighting Homegrown Soccer Standouts in Tribute to the 2026 World Cup hosted in North America

The slate banners celebrate local soccer stars, linking community pride to the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The slate banners are a vibrant celebration of homegrown soccer talent from Pleasanton, San Ramon, Alamo, Diablo, and Danville—communities where the love of the game starts young and grows strong. As the world’s biggest soccer stage comes to North America on June 11, when the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, these banners connect global excitement to local pride. They spotlight athletes who got their start right here, including Emrah Klimenta, Angelina Anderson, JT Marcinkowski, Cam Cilley, Kaylie Collins, Shane de Flores, Cade Cowell, Chris Wondolowski, Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak, and Bay FC’s founding four—Brandi Chastain, Danielle Slaton, Aly Wagner, and Leslie Osborne. Their stories remind us that world-class talent can—and does—grow from our own fields, parks, and neighborhood clubs.

More than just recognition, the banners reflect the powerful role sports play in bringing people together. Soccer builds confidence, teamwork, leadership, and lifelong friendships, shaping not only strong athletes but strong communities. In honor of these local standouts, City Center Bishop Ranch will make a generous donation to Mustang Soccer, San Ramon Football Club, Ballistic United Football Club, BAWSI, NorCal Futbol, and U.S. Soccer Foundation, directly supporting the programs that inspire today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders. Together, these banners celebrate shared roots, shared pride, and a shared belief that investing in local talent strengthens the entire community—on and off the field.

Emrah Klimenta began his soccer journey in youth programming with San Ramon FC before gaining international experience in Europe and returning to build a strong professional career in California. From becoming a cornerstone at Sacramento Republic FC to professionally competing in MLS with LA Galaxy. He recently retired from professional soccer after playing for the Las Vegas Lights.

Angelina Anderson, a Danville native, developed her game playing for Mustang Soccer Club and Carondelet High School before starring at the University of California, Berkeley. Selected 27th overall by Angel City FC in the 2023 NWSL Draft, she made an immediate impact by saving a penalty in her professional debut and later starting Angel City’s first-ever playoff match, becoming the first rookie goalkeeper to appear in the NWSL playoffs since 2013.

JT Marcinkowski developed his game with Mustang Soccer Club in Danville. Gaining professional experience with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2017 and with Reno 1868 FC, he continued his MLS career by signing a two-year deal with LA Galaxy in January 2025.

Cam Cilley is a professional soccer player in the MLS league with St. Louis CITY SC who played collegiately at Stanford University, where he was a Pac-12 Champion in 2020 and earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors in 2022. Growing up in Alamo, he played for Mustang Soccer Club before joining St. Louis CITY2, the club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate.

Kaylie Collins is a professional goalkeeper for the Washington Spirit in the NWSL league who played college soccer at USC and was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NWSL Draft by the Orlando Pride. A local standout she starred at Carondelet High School and developed through the Mustang Soccer Club, earning national recognition as a high school All-American.

Shane de Flores, a Danville native, began his soccer journey with Pleasanton Ballistic United Soccer Club before excelling at Stanford, earning All-Far West Region honors in 2023. De Flores helped lead Stanford to the NCAA Men’s Soccer quarterfinals. In 2024, he was drafted 14th in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft to start his professional career with the Chicago Fire.

Cade Cowell is an American soccer player who plays as a striker for the New York Red Bulls on loan from Liga MX Guadalajara and represents the U.S. national team. He began his youth career at Ballistic United Soccer Club in Pleasanton, where he led the nation with 34 goals in 32 games for the under-15 team, before joining the San Jose Earthquakes academy in 2018. Cowell has quickly risen through the ranks to become a professional in Major League Soccer.

Chris Wondolowski played high school soccer at De La Salle High School in Concord, California, earning All-Bay Valley Athletic League and all-East Bay first-team honors in 2000 and 2001, along with two local “Player of the Year” awards. Chris also played club soccer for Diablo Valley Soccer Club (DVSC) and Danville Mustang Soccer Club. Wondolowski was later part of the U.S. national team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, playing in matches against Portugal and Belgium.

Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak, is a former defender, and Olympic gold medalist who helped the U.S. win the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Tiffany was a founding member of the WUSA and one of just 16 U.S. players to earn over 100 international caps. Her talent began locally with San Ramon FC, and she now serves as head coach for the University of Central Florida women’s soccer team.

Bay FC is the Bay Area’s first NWSL team, co-founded by U.S. Women’s National Team legends Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Danielle Slaton, and Leslie Osborne. Launched in March 2024, Bay FC is building a player-led, fan-focused club that positively impacts the community by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through the game of soccer. With power, passion, artistry, and creativity, Bay FC is changing the face of women’s soccer as we know it.
